Overnight packages from US

Do these packages go direct to the receiver or get stopped somewhere for inspection and delay? Any experience with shipping perishables; in this case, refrigerated insulin (and no, I can't get this particular type in Mexico)? Gracias, Mike

The packages go through the customs office in Mexico City where they may or may not be opened. So far as I know there is no true overnight express service from the USA to an addressee in Mexico.

You should check with an airline about an air shipment that you could walk through the local customs office.

Mike.....I use DHL for shipments to/from the US weekly. They are sent from the US on Monday/Tuesday, and I receive them on Friday/Saturday. They go to Mexico City, then to Guadaljara, and then to me in Vallarta. Seeing the time it takes, I doubt refrigerated insulin would be able to be sent. Steve

I've received both FedEx and UPS stuff shipped overnight from either the USA or Canada that actually has arrived next-day at my front door, but what I've received has never been a package, only a flat envelope. Packages are probably handled differently.

Might want to check with the nearest US consulate. They MIGHT accept insulin in diplomatic pouches, in which case your FedEx would not be held up in customs. And let us know!

Fedex packages here in Mexico City get routed through Toluca Customs.

I shipped a large envelope FED EX to Hermosillo (for around $30 US!!!) it arrived in 2 days. (it was guaranteed 3 days). I saw from the tracking info on the web site that it was routed thru Guadalajara.

I shipped a medium package from Fort Lauderdale to my home here in Ajijic, due to arrive in three days or less. It was only because I had no room in my suitcase for one more thing, and I arrived home from FLL that night. I had paid for the five pound air freshener and its shipping charge.
A day or so later I was away from the house for about a half an hour getting food and the paper from the nearest grocery. When I arrived home, the Fedex truck had been there, and what they left was a bill (duty etc) for $178. !! U.S. $178. !!
This was last May and I have received nothing since, not the box, not anything.
I would certainly not recommend Fedex for anything to be delivered in Mexico.

Duty charges on packages shipped into Mexico can be just as exhorbitant as Peggy says. A friend's mother shipped him a pair of blue jeans; the duty was $52.00USD. Another friend's father shipped her a coffee mug; the duty was $14.00.

It's important to ask friends and relatives not to ship things to us here, unless we are prepared to be socked with duty charges that far exceed the value of the item shipped.

The only PACKAGES that are not charged duty are books. Powell's and Amazon.com have both shipped large boxes of books to me and to others without any difficulty or added fees. Powell's actually ships FREE TO MEXICO for orders over $50.00USD.
