The book on moving to México that Carol Schmidt, Norma Hair and I have been working on since what seems like the beginning of time is about to hit the presses. Look here for details http://rollybrook.com/book.htm

Wealthy? Me thinks you may not understand the book business. It's a labor of love -- or madness. Smile

"Who has the movie rights?"

We've been talking to a guy from FNP-TJ-- Fly by Night Productions in TJ. He seems a little gangsterish. He wants an awful lot of money up front. My dog growled at him. Not a good sign. Stay tuned.

Yep, should be mandatory for all of us on Mexconnect to buy at least one copy of the book for, you know, partial yet inadequate compensation for all that Rolly has done for us. Okay, I'll be first.

I quite agree, robbers, which is why I put my order in last week! Congrats to Rolly. It's well-deserved attention for one of Mexconnect's star authorities.

And for those who haven't bought one yet, but would like to, you can purchase yours here.

Carol Schmidt has indicated that it will be available for sale at the Biblioteca in San Miguel de Allende. I think the easiest and least expensive way for you to acquire the book would be to take a weekend drive over there and visit for awhile as well.

Pat, try typing in your Mexican mailing address in the place that says "Instructions from buyer."

Brian, yes it will be available in several places in SMA, but pre-sale orders will be shipped first, with free shipping included--cheaper than a trip to SMA.

The book won't be in stores and on Amazon.com until late September or early October. It will be in the Biblioteca gift shop, El Tecolote book store, and La Conexion Aldama in SMA

Pat, I had an identical problem a few years ago. I got around it by changing my billing address online for the credit card I was using to my Merkalink address in Laredo, Texas where the package was to be shipped to. I then placed the order again the next day, and it was accepted.

I have enabled paperless statements for all of our credit cards, and the card I was using did not expire for a couple of years. I wasn't worried about Merkalink receiving any mail from my credit card issuer intended for me. After I received the package a week later, I changed my billing address back to my normal billing address in The US.

It worked for me.

I don't know a thing about publishing or inventory issues for books. But I can tell you that Powell's Books in Portland has the best selection of books related to MX. I was just there last week and picked up a couple of Mexico reads.

If you can get your new book on the shelves of Powell's - that would be to your advantage! About 80% of their business is now mail order, but the retail store downtown is HUGELY popular with info hungry readers.

The other advantage to Powell's is that they "re-sell" keeping a valuable book like yours in use - providing good information to new readers over and over again. As you mentioned this is not about the royalty check, but rather providing a good resource to others. Bravo!

If they ever issue an "Expat Humanitarian Award" Rolly - I will nominate you! You are always self-less with your diligent work on the "how-to in Mexico" articles.

Thanks for helping all of us with your many talents of investigation.

Good luck!

Powell's is a great bookstore, and I have ordered many books from them. But you are not likely to see our book there. They are geared for large volume sales. They are not interested carrying small volume books like ours. Amazon is willing.

I'll be pre-ordering my copy - but I'm in the US, so won't have a problem there.

However, isn't it true that the authors get more money if we order from your website as opposed to Amazon?

IOW, we'll be helping you more by ordering directly from your site.
