Notifying INM of status change-boilerplate language?

Can't Post | Private Reply
A few months ago I received my Residente Permanente visa. While I don't have to solicit them for anything, I do need to notify them of any change in my status (change of address, marital status, etc.). And it turns out I will need to do that.

I imagine all I have to do is present them with a nice little letter stating this. I *seem* to remember seeing somewhere on MexConnect an example of wording that makes bureaucrats smile and nod, more or less a form letter that says something like, "I the undersigned wish to notify the authorities of Migración of a change to my status...." bla bla bla.

Anybody know off-hand what they like to see on paper? I've done a search and can't find the thread here (or the info on Rolly's website). And I'm no good at bureaucratspeak. Thanks!

You will need proof. In the case of an address change, you need to bring a Telmex bill or CFE bill from the last billing cycle to your old address and a bill with the current billing cycle at the new address. There is a 90 day window and there are penalties if you dilly-dally.

As far as marital status, etc. don't know for sure but I'll bet you will need governmental paper proof showing the dates of the change, etc.

This probably isn't the template you remember seeing; I don’t think I’ve posted this before, but in case it helps:

COMISIONADO DEL INSTITUTO [Lugar y fecha against the right margin]
NACIONAL DE MIGRACIÓN
SECRETARIA DE GOBERNACIÓN
PRESENTE
Asunto: Cambio de […]

Por medio de la presente me permito comunicarles que el suscrito, el/la C. [nombre completo] […].

Agradeciendo de antemano la atención presentada a la presente, me despido con un cordial saludo.

Our INM offices also require that we certify what we have written is true:

"Bajo protesta de decir verdad."

You could also consider adding your INM ID and passport number to the body of the letter, along with describing your specific request for changing your address.

"Por medio de la presente, yo, NAME OF APPLICANT AS SHOWN ON PASSPORT , con E.E U.U. pasaporte numero: INSERT PASSPORT ID NUMBER, solicito el cambio la dirección para mi INM Permiso de Residente Permanente, Numero: INSERT INM CARD ID NUMBER FROM BACK OF CARD. Adjunto copias de mis comprabantes solicitados para este trámite.

Bajo protesta de decir verdad."

============================
And then add the signature line, with your full address, and phone number(s)

"Atentamente,
APPLICANT SIGNATURE – sign here

Type/enter APPLICANT NAME

APPLICANT’S ADDRESS
Calle (ENTER ADDRESS) Col. (ENTER NEIGHBORHOOD)
Mérida, Yucatán, México C.P. 97000
Tel. domicilio (ENTER HOME PHONE)
Cel. (ENTER CELL PHONE)
==========================

and include your comprabantes (originals and copies) that prove the new address,

Different INM offices, different policies. Here, you just walk into INM with your passport, Permanente green card and Telmex bills showing old and new addresses and they do the rest.

Thanks all!

Oftentimes lately, we have a much less accommodating staff at the INM Delegación in Chapala. So I appreciate the wording provided by Maesonna and Yucalandia.

Before seeing these replies, I had to go to Chapala today for something else so popped into the INM Office to ask. I had cobbled together a hacky letter and brought copies of everything, etc. But the nice lady there said I need to initiate the process on the website (doh!, of course! Mexico is so modern these days!) before they could accept the stuff. I was lucky today because I got the nice lady, and she printed out the requisitos. They vary depending upon which change to status you're making. (But yes, you need to swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth in the little letter.)

To initiate a change in status start at the http://www.inm.gob.mx, then follow the website tree. It's something like this:

Tramites-->Migrantes-->Solicitudes de Estancia --> Notificar cambios --> then just use the drop down menus, etc. (That may not be exactly right, but close enough to get you there.) And if you have your visa in front of you, you can enter the number early on in the form and it fills out the rest of the solicitation for you, including passport number, current addres, etc. So modern, a bit creepy! There's no hiding (not that I want to hide.)

Thanks for all the help.

This link has the Tramite you are looking for: http://www.mexconnect.com/...i?post=193648#193648
On the INM site, you start your tramite on this page: FORMATO MIGRATORIO PARA TRÁMITES DE ESTANCIA ¿Qué desea hacer? Notificar Cambios, then make your selection under the "Especifique" drop-down block. Follow the instructions or enter your NUE. Print or take the pieza number with you, supporting documents and your free-form letter to your servicing INM office.
A sample of the free form letter for a change of address would include:

Afirma que debemos seguir haciendo la misma actividad y por esta carta de solicitud para cumplir con los requisitos de inmigración solicitar su cambio de dirección, ya que ahora vive en la Calle Madero 139B, Colonia Colimillas, 61606 Pátzcuaro, Michoacán.

Bajo protesta de decir verdad y apercibido de las sanciones que corresponden a quienes proporcionen información falsa ante la autoridad migratoria.
