Nice trailer parks/resorts - Guadalajara area

Can't Post | Private Reply
Greetings,

I was reading these forums back when they were free but am joining again as we're still planning a trip down to look at some retirement options.

One question I have is whether or not there are decent RV trailer parks/resorts in the Guadalajara area. For a several month stay I am wondering if bringing a trailer (don't have one yet) down to live in may be a better option cost-wise. I know some of the units can be pulled by a smaller pick-up (5th wheel) so we'd have the vehicle for day trips.

My wife and I are interested in keeping active with volunteer teaching, etc. We have a large Irish Wolfhound and would like to bring him so the facility has to allow for dogs.

Thanks for any leads and it's nice to see some old "faces".

Hi Ken,

Welcome home!

Mazatlan is loaded with great RV parks, as are many places on South. And in San Antonio Tlayacapan there's PAL. Guad itsownself I don't know about but I'm sure they're there.

My advice? Look at my friend Kathy Olivas' website at www.sunseekerpub.com or e-mail info@sunseekerpub.com. Her book "Mexico by RV" is very cool.

Or look at www.sanbachs.net.cgi/mexico/mexicot.cgi for a list of RV parks from Acapulco to Zihuatnejo.

Have fun!

After looking at all that, go to the absolute bible of RVers in Mexico - Traveler's Guide to Mexican Camping by Mike and Terri Church.

http://www.rollinghomes.com/Mexico%20Book.htm

The Church's book has gotten us throughout Mexico and Belize for several years. You will find that those who don't have it, carry photocopied sections of it. Our copy is torn, dog-eared, written in the margins ... we've made many a trip to the copia store with it in towns across MX, usually for europeans that didn't know about the book. We actually were greeted at an RV park in Oaxaca by a Dutch couple asking if we had the book, they had seen our license plates and hoped to get lucky.

It is a couple of years since the last update now, I'm hoping that a new one will come out soon. Mike and Terry have been spending a lot of time in Europe this year updating that book so I'm not sure when the Mexico book will be updated. It's still accurate although, as everywhere, places close and new places open. They do have an online update section which I usually check for the latest info before I leave.

Last time I checked on the Churce's website, they still published up-dates from readers about Mexican RV sites. So even if a few years passes between their books, you can still read some more current reports on campground conditions.

Hmm...think I'll take a look myself;^) Wendy

go to www.chapala.com and click on the yellow box that says PAL RV resort.

I visited it in July and it is very nice; however, they are in the process of converting it to an all-residential development but they're still taking RVs.

It's between Ajijic and Chapala right on the corner of the bypass road that zips you to Guad.

Ken, there's another thread on camping on the (I think) Living etc. forum.

also, a few camping URLs were posted in the thread I started about "recommended vehicle makes.

plus I just found this http://www.campingmexico.com/pages/1/index.htm

It's hard to know where to post some of these topics, isn't it? many of them overlap or could fit in more than one forum.
