Thats really threatening for the middle class person. The average earning person feels so much difficulty to keep a car with such fuel prices. what will be the future of petroleum prices in 2011. You can also ask questions regarding different problems due to the raise in the petroleum prices in different countries of the world

Someone has to pay for the huge benefit package that Pemex employees get.

10% of production is "stolen" or allowed-to-be-stolen by narcos and other criminals both inside and outside of PEMEX.

You just made up that statistic, didn't you.

Just to put this in perspective, it's about 50 cents a litre less than we are paying in Canada right now and probably close to a dollar less than people are paying in Europe.

To really put it into perspective someone should calculate the cost based on the % of the average income required to purchase a litre of gasoline in Canada , US and Mexico...

I don't know the average income for any of those countries, so I'll just look at México's minimum wage.
In Zone A the minimum is $59.80 per day. Assuming an 8 hour day, that's $7.48 per hour.
A liter of Magna is $8.84. So that liter of gas cost 118% of an hour's minimum wage.

In the USA the gas price fluctuates a lot, but right now a liter of regular is around 10% of the minimum wage

In British Columbia, Canada, it is about 15% of minimum wage due to high taxes. Some other provinces with lower taxes may be around 10%.

I read it in Reforma, but I can't say exactly what date. I never make up things I post here. There's a story in today's Reforma that says there are 600 locations where oil and gasoline are being stolen.

We must not forget to add to the price of gasoline how much each particular station is gouging the customers by having the pumps rigged to dispense a lesser amount than stated.

Last month I took a gallon jug, with "1 US Gallon" printed on the side, to my local Pemex station. I requested to fill it myself. I pumped exactly 3.785 liters into the jug and paid. When I got home I measured how much the jug was short, and came up with a figure of 6%.

Just think how much people are getting ripped off by the LP Gas companies in Mexico. I would be willing to bet that this is even a bigger scam than rigged Pemex pumps.

The best place to buy gas is where the taxis buy it. They know. You will see some stations where the taxis line up and that is where the liter is a liter. Whereas, other stations have no taxi traffic at all. Beware of these.

To put Mexico's gas prices in some sort of international context, UK commentators are saying that, "Petrol prices to hit £6 a gallon. - Petrol could soon hit £6 a gallon for the first time, according to experts, after the price of oil on the world markets climbed higher following an oil spill in Alaska."
£6 a gallon = £1.32 a liter = US$2.05 a liter... [just saying...]

Minimum wage UK £5.93 per hour or about 112.818 MXN per hour……

Mexico Zone A minimum wage $7.48 per MXN hour

So if gasoline costs 25.1329 MXN (£1.32) a litre in the UK or 2.84 times as much as it costs in Mexico…..

But minimum wage is more than 15 times greater in the UK than in Mexico….

………I am just say’in

Agreed, though there is no fair way to compare minimum wages from one country to another, since they are based on entirely different premises. The UK, for instance, has several tiers of so-called minimum wages, depending on age, and apprenticeships, ranging from £5.93 for most workers aged 21 and over, to £3.64 for 16-17 year olds to £2.50 for most apprentices. Mexico has a whole slew of minimum wages for different jobs, and I'm pretty sure there are still some differences in rates between regions/states [these differences used to be much greater, but are apparently being slowly ironed out of the system].
A better "purchasing power" comparison would be how many hours of average wage (not minimum wage) are required to purchase a liter of gasoline. Maybe I'll calculate this later...

There was an article circulating today that stated the price of oil on the market for 2011 will average $93.00 per bbl. The price of gasoline will be $3.50gal and will probably hit $4.00 for some or most of the time. I'm not sure of the agency but it might've been the EIA of the Petroleum Institute.
