Medicare in Mexico

I will be 65 soon and recently received an introductory brochure about Medicare benefits. One of the benefits described was payment for some medical treatments in Mexico. The catch-22????

One has to live in the United States in order for Medicare to pay for medical care performed in Mexico!!!! Our government at work. Gotta luv ya.

You would think that the govt clowns would have figured out by now that buying many Medicare required medicatuions in Mexico would save big bucks for Medicare. But wait I forgot about Big Pharma lobbyists.

Carron,

It weems we have not heard from you in quite some time. Nice to know you're still connected. I will be 65 soon too and was just looking at the same insane rule. I still live NoB, so it I guess I am eligible for reimbursement in Mexico, at least under some circumstances, which are especially formulated never to occur.

A friend told me that some US health insurance companies are paying for medical/surgical care performed (at a lower cost than in the US) in other countries. Medical globalization.

The Medicare provision which Carron brings up applies only to very, very limited set of circumstances. Write to Medicare for clarification.

Our medical insurance from the US gives us complete coverage anywhere in the world. Possibly because my former employer (who my insurance is still through as a retiree) does business world-wide.
Because it has network and non-network providers, coverage is different here than where I lived in Texas.
