Malaria vaccine

I have a question for those of you living down there, or anyone else who might be able to answer this. We're planning a lengthy trip, and we may end up spending a significant amount of time in Chiapas (probably San Cristobol.) My question: If I were to decide at a later date that I wanted to take the malaria vacination pills, can I buy them down there? I'd rather not take them if I don't have to as they are expensive, not necessary in most parts of the country, and they upset my stomach a little the last time I took them. But it'd be nice to have the option if I end up sometplace especially bizarre. Also, I figured it might be cheaper to buy them down there. Thanks!

The Centers for Disease Control website has information about malaria prone areas and prophylactic treatments to prevent malaria that should answer most of your question. Typically, most malaria preventives have to be started prior to visiting the afflicted area. It may be that there are newer medications, I don't know, check out the CDC website.
