I called my state DMV. They said that you can registar a car in the state and not be a resident. They also said that they would put on a mexican address on the registration, and I could have the registration forward to an address in the U.S. since they do not send out of the country. Here is my question if I do this and I get stopped in mexico and they see I am living in Mexico they might say your U.S. licence is no good and you need to get a mexican license.

I will not have a U.S. address if I use a mail box address then this is not considered a valid address. I was wondering how others see this problem. I lean towards putting down a mailbox address. But if I am in an accident the Mexican insurance if they find out might not pay out. Any thoughts

Are you talking about license plates or a driver's license?

In either case, it's a non-issue. You can drive your car with expired foreign license plates, except in Baja. My insurance company knows my plates expired 9 years ago, and they don't care. You probably cannot register your car in México; it's almost impossible to do.

Your driver's license from the USA is good in México as long as it has not expired. A México driver's license is easy to get. I always advise people living in México to get a Mexican DL in case they run into a cop who doesn't know the rules -- not uncommon.
