Junk car - how rto cancel import paper

Can't Post | Private Reply
I know this has been covered before but am not having super success searching for the answer.

A friend of ours has her US plated car here and she has an FM3. The car is now junk, her mechanice has offered to take care of the paperwork to get her car permit cancelled. She is willing to let him do the legwork, but would like to know what paperwork she should receive from him to ensure the permit is cancelled. She says she will not be importing another car ever in the future. She lives in the Puerto Vallarta area.
Or, she asked if an option is taking the sticker and paperwork to the aduana at the border to get it cancelled is a better option.
She does want to make sure the permit is cancelled properly.
She will be leaving Mexico in January and not lanning on returning.

I have read on various forums that one can sometimes deal with such a situation at Aduana at GDL airport. Maybe one could do the same at the PV airport?

Quick answer, Give the car to the mechanic, along with the U.S. paperwork and the sticker paperwork and cease to worry about it. If she plans to NEVER bring another car into México, that's all that is necessary. If the car is truly junk, Aduana will never know anything about it, but even if she changes her mind about returning, she can't bring another car into México.

If she is TOTALLY ANAL, she can carry the sticker and all the paperwork to the border and turn it in, but that signals Aduana that for certain the car is still in México and THAT'S what is illegal. I would not recommend this solution.

The only SORT OF LEGAL solution is to have the car towed/carried to the border, have Aduana remove the sticker and give her a receipt, then abandon the car (or give it to a junkyard in the border town after leaving the 20 Km— more-or-less—checkpoint) before crossing into the U.S. The legal method is to do the same, but take the car into the U.S. and sell it/give it to a junkyard.

Assuming that this person takes the advice of simply forgetting the vehicle and depart MX and not planning to return:
1) What happens to the credit card or cash deposit that they gave when obtaining to the vehicle permit?
2) There have been stated rumors (that I don't subscribe to) that the vehicle permit is somehow tied to a vehicle owner's visa be it FMT, FM3 or FM2. If that is the case, would that not trigger #1?

Granted MX has always been sloppy with their "paperwork trail" but recent incidents seem to indicate they just might be getting a handle on certain aspects!

My guess here is that if a cash deposit was left - then it will be gone. Rolly Brook always says, and I always believe Rolly, that nothing happens to your credit card - but if one is worried about that, the simple solution is to cancel that card and get a replacement, which will have a different number.

The credit card will not be hit. That myth has been debunked many times.

Aduana has a procedure for dealing with junk car. Go to the nearest office. The junk man's plan is probably OK if you trust him to follow through.

<< If the car is truly junk, Aduana will never know anything about it,>>

I will suggest she find someone here who can check with Aduana, she wants it cleared from her responsibility.
