Today, our newspaper, El Siglo de Torreón, reported the 2008 price increases of several basic food items -- results of a survey in our area..

Vegetable oil = 117 percent.

Rice = 100 percent.

Wheat flour = 53 percent.

Beans = 62 percent

Ground beef = 4 percent.

Pork = 19 percent.

Eggs = 59 percent.

Only chicken leg+thigh price decreased; down 10 percent.

crap. Hate to see that. Suegra stated a week ago that prices for food were still stable in Tlaxcala. That may have changed since her visit here though.

I haven't actually kept records, but those increases look pretty similar to ours here in Aguascalientes. I believe the price of bread has doubled. It's nice that it doesn't get all moldy if not used right away, as it does in Kansas. We hardly ever waste any here.
