In Mexico the parents go to the Senior Prom too.

I think I'll try and sneak away around 1pm this evening and sleep for a half an hour and then go back and maybe no one will notice. In Mexico the parents go the senior prom too. I am planning for pulling an all nighter. And no alcohol either. And you can't even talk to any women except your wife and daughters and female relatives. With all due respect, none of you could survive a situation like this. Its going to be really hard for me to stay awake and cheerful, but I am really trying to psych myself up for it. I am planning on having a very good time.

That's odd. I raised 3 children here and none had a prom.

I have to agree with Bennie. I've had three (so far) graduate from prep (high school) and nary a senior prom or even a graduation party. During the years I've been here, I have put 3 employees through University and all those had graduation parties much as the OP described the "senior prom" party he was going to attend. One big difference to any such party in the U.S. was that you could only attend if you bought a ticket, as ticket sales were how the graduating class raised enough money for the party. One of those graduating classes had enough kids from lower income families that the tickets were pretty inexpensive, BUT each graduate's family brought their own food (and in some cases their own drinks, although there was a bar if you wanted to buy drinks instead of bringing your own).

I stayed for the whole event. The daughters did a parade lap around the edge of the dance floor on the arms of their fathers to cheering and clapping of hundreds of people. And you kiss your daughter on the cheek at the end of the walk and she symbolically flies away into adulthood. She was nervous that they wouldn't pronounce our complicated German name right. But they did. It was hard not to be emotional. The mothers also did the parade lap around the edge of the dance floor on the arms of their sons with the son kissing his mother on the cheek. The only thing was, I worried for a moment about the fire exists in the old wood building with no windows and a wood roof. I don't know why nobody else has even done this or heard about it. We have been criticized for living a petit bourgeois life in Mexico. After such a nice family event like that, I wonder if it might be true. But no, they think I am communist back in the old country(USA). LOL

Maybe it is a regional thing, or something that your child's school does but others don't.
