We recently (2 weeks ago) applied to change our immigration status from inmigrante to permanente.
Today, online is this notice "Ha sido asignado el tipo de trámite"
Can someone help me figure out what this means? Thanks

According to Google Translate:

"processed has been assigned"

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. I used Google translate and saw that, but don't know what that means.
Could someone who has gone through the process tell me the steps that will show up on my status, and most importantly, when do I need to go back to the office?

It means it's "not lost". 8-)

I forget exactly what the various messages were, but one was "assigned" (asignado) and another was clasificado.....the only important one to be on the look out for is when they ask you to come into the INM office ("presentarse").

What did the agent at INM tell you? Wait for the 'presentarse', call back in x days, or stop by in x days? The INM here said to call them in four weeks while the internet site never said 'presentarse.'

When I applied in Nov. they never updated the INM website and I stopped in at the local INM office frequently. Then they gave me their phone # with 3 extensions to call. No problem after that.

I then did a tramite from RT to RT with a "Permiso para Trabajar in Feb. They took my 2 year RT card. It was approved the next day, fingerprints, payment and photos then needed and had my new 2 year RT card there in 2 weeks.

Both times the INM website stopped at "assigned" even after I paid and had fingerprints and photos. I have no faith all INM offices update the INM website regularly after that.

The best advice is to stop in and ask for a phone number. IMO

They told me check on-line, starting in one week. The agent said it will tell us when to return, but I didn't ask what the wording would be. Seems like presentarse would be it.

This is what the INM website used to say:
Fecha (date) - Estatus Trámite (status) – Ubicación (INM location)
15/04/ - El trámite ha sido registrado – Delegación Regional en Yucatán
15/04/ - El tramite ha sido asignado - Delegación Regional en Yucatán
29/04/ - El trámite ha sido clasificado - Delegación Regional en Yucatán
30/05/ - Presentarse en una oficina del INM – Delegación Regional en Yucatán
31/05/ - Notificado en ventanilla - Delegación Regional en Yucatán

For those who use the Michoacán delegación you may email Celia Nereida Abrego Villa - Agente Federal de Migración "B" with inquiries, use this address: cabrego@inami.gob.mx

Other state delegacións you should ask for the contact name and address or you may use the Consulta form.
