INM information & Social Security

Just dropped off the paperwork for DH at the INM office. They remembered us from when we were there in Sept. This time we also met Allan, who I think is in charge, and he was telling us a bit about the new laws. Didn't think they would be ready for about 2 or 3 months. He did think that because we were retired and receiving social security we would be eligible for permanent residency. He also said that he thought that one would be able to obtain a FM2 for a 4 year term. He said they had no idea on what the costs would be but that hopefully less expensive and much easier to do.

He said that they were trying to make everything simplified and wanted people comfortable in being able to apply for visas.

We are suppose to pick up DH's visa in two days!

I don't know about other offices but in Puerto Penasco, Sonora, the staff is absolutely wonderful and extremely helpful. They turned a chore into a fun morning. He also suggested we might want to stop by in a few months and he might have more details.

Just got back from the INM office with renewed FM2 in hand. It really did only take 2 days. We were the first ones there so only took 15 minutes to have DH fingerprinted, but in the book and his card assembled. Then, since no one else had arrived, we ended up talking with the staff, practicing our Spanish. They have a Federal Guard on duty, and he joined in. It was like old friends getting together.
