Help: question about teaching

: I'm interested in teaching in Mexico as early as the spring semester 2003ĄŁ Currently I'm living and teaching in China. Any advice, web sites et cetera would be greatly appreciated.
: -patrick
Patrick:
I recommend doing a search at Dave's ESL Cafe at www.eslcafe.com, in particular the Job Information Journal (Latin America/Mexico), and the Job Discussion Forum. There are several helpful, friendly people who post on that forum regularly. TEFL.com has job openings posted in Mexico although the overwhelming majority of teaching jobs in Mexico never show up on the internet. One site that is devoted to teaching in Mex. is "http://www.employnow.com/Mexico.htm". It is a commercial site with products and services to sell, specifically for those interested in teaching in Mexico, Their newsletters can be very helpful.
Jobs are plentiful but high wages are not the norm. What a suitable wage is depends on you and your lifestyle. I recommend researching the region of the country you might like to work in, ie. a big city, the beach, mountains, cool vs tropical climate etc. After getting some idea of where you'd like to work, you can narrow your search to specific cities and language schools. Most large cities and many medium sized cities have English Language schools. There are several companies that have schools around the country. The Job Information Journal at Dave's ESL cafe may help with that. Once you've narrowed down your search you can post a query over at Dave's about a particular city or schools and with luck, someone will have been there or otherwise help you out with more info.
Don Adams here on MexConnect has a series of articles about teaching Eng. in Mex. you might enjoy but they seem more geared towards a first time teacher as opposed to someone who has been in the business. None-the-less, give 'em a read.
Hope this helps a little. Good luck. Peace.
