Getting clothes across border

Can't Post |
I understand it's not feasable to mail clothes from U.S. into Mexico. But I'm doing an internship in Oaxaca about 2 months after I begin exploring mexico. I don't want to lug around the dress clothes I will need, and I can't afford to just buy new clothes. What about lugging them across the border and then mailing them to Oaxaca? Is this a good idea? Thank you

Lug them across the border and send them down via bus. They will deliver right to your Oaxaca address. I had good luck sending items this way out of Nogales. You will need a Mexican address in Oaxaca.

Thanks esteban and esperanza. Is there a particular bus company I should use? Is this very reliable? What about a Mexexpress or whatever the Mexican equivalent to U.P.S is? Would that be too expensive?

I can't remember which bus takes freight. I should be easy because there are always large modern bus stations in border towns. I think UPS would be a nightmare. I know the bus works. And, they will deliver to the door.

You can send freight on any ole bus line. I don't know about to-your-door delivery, but how much trouble could it be to get to the bus station at arrival time, pick up your stuff, and hop a cab home?

Mexico's bus service is different from--and IMHO much better than--Greyhound. One of those differences is that Mexico City is the "hub" for all of the country and various buslines have different territories. So buses coming south from the border, for example, will drop at Mexico City and passengers and freight change to another busline going to, in your case, Oaxaca. While I have never sent freight unaccompanied, I have spent many hours and covered many kilometers on various Mexican buses. They are so superior to the ones in the US, the differences are simply indescribable.

The only luggage we ever lost was via Greyhound in San Antonio, Texas, on our way back to Mexico. ˇViva Mexico!

Estrella Blanca, has a station at the border and can ship to Oaxaca. Double wrap the clothes in plastic trash bags, and tie securely to ward off grease and dirt.
