With Magna at $2.60 USD a gallon it is still cheaper than the $2.98 I am paying in the San Francisco Bay Area...

It costs whatever it costs here. Just a few years ago we were paying about one US Dll more per gallon for gasoline here, before the price of gas started to rise through the roof in The US. At the equivalent of $2.60 per gallon it is acceptable with me. The monthly rises are almost negligible when you consider that they are in Centavos, and a Centavo is less than a US Mil. A Peso today equals about 8 US Cents, there are 100 Centavos per Peso.

I visited one of my daughters in California about three years ago. We were always looking for the few service stations that were selling gas cheaply at about $2.90 US Dlls per gallon, most of the gas stations up there were selling gas at about $3.30 US Dlls per gallon at that time.

We don't do much driving here. My wife makes one or two trips to Mexico City every month, so we need to fill the tank on her van every week or 10 days. I drive our second car locally just one or two days per month, so I need to fill the tank in it every 3 or 4 months.

While it is always nice to save money, the price of gasoline doesn't concern me much here.

Hi, folks,

We're trying to figure the conversion rate of liters to gallon, pesos to dollars, to arrive at an estimate of what it will cost us to drive in Mexico over the next several months. I know (long time Mex resident) how often the exchange rate varies, so our estimate will truly be only a guestimate. Just trying to get an idea. Can anyone tell me if the estimates above refer to US Gallon or Imperial Gallon? Thanks for all... Lee Jacobs

They are talking about the old English Wine gallon of 3.79 liters, now the standard gallon in the U.S.

Maybe in Quebec that's the exchange rate between Liters and Gallons but not on "The Island" or the lower mainland where the exchange rate is 3.785 not 3.79. Do a Google search and you will learn that actually "1 US gallon is 3.78541178 liters", not 3.79.

Not that it really matters.

Oh and 1 Imperial Gallon (UK) = 4.54609188 litres. Note the way they spell liter in the UK. Who says the folks in England, Canada, and the US speak the same language?

Certainly not me. I have to work with Brits every day. I've got a crash course in Cockney Rhyming Slang I can tell you.

We are two countries separated by a common language!

8.60 pesos/litre? Cheap as chips! Relatively speaking of course. After a bit cypherin', carry the one...times this by that, do a bit of gozindas...and et voila, and I can see that you all are paying about half for petrol than here in New Zealand! Here, if you put some go juice in the tank, it will cost you the equivalent of 20 pesos per litre.

Happy motoring!
Así pues...aquí estamos...
