Like anywhere else, be careful and get recommendations. I wish I had followed my advise. Four years ago, I didn't follow my advise. I was having stomach problems (later determined to be caused by a medication I was taking). The gastroentologist inserted the tube into my stomach, gave me a VCR copy of the visit and pointed out that my very normal hietal hernia was the problem and that he needed to operate and repair said hernia. I thanked him very much and asked for his report as I wanted a second opinion.

He said he would provide same to me when he returned to Ajijic next week. I watched him leave for Guadalajara in his very expensive car. The records were never forthcoming. All I had was the VCR tape. Well I had the tests done elsewhere, and was told that there was absolutely no need for any operation. I later changed my blood pressure medication and my stomach problems went away.

Be very very careful folks and do like Mazatleca is doing. Ask around. I would recommend the Doctor I ultimately used, but he is in another country, so I can't help there

Your experience--as I'm sure you know--could and does happen everywhere in the world. Stomach problems have almost infinite causes--and many doctors everywhere see "dollar signs" instead of "people".

I'm sorry if I sounded like I was suggesting that one country had more dishonest persons than the other. In the States or Canada, I know how to find a good Doctor. I'm still learning about how to do that in Jalisco.

Today I would act differently than I did 3 or 4 years ago when I had my health problem. I might check this forum and I would definitely ask some of my Mexican and American friends who they might recommend.

I truly thank you for your comments. The person that contacted me specified that this Doctor should have experience in dealing with Crohn's Disease and the symtoms thereof. I am hoping to help with a referral from someone that has been there.
