FMT's if living in a border city

I notice that the information in the "Immigration" section does not mention the current price of the FMT. Is it still about $20 US?

I someone you knew well planned to live for up to six months in a hotel in Tijuana, would _you_ advise him to get an FMT?

What about if he were going to cross back into the U.S. frequently, would that make a difference?

What about if he didn'nt stay in hotel, but rented a room from someone?

Thanks in advance.

My current FMT cost 195 pesos, at today's rate its a bit less than 20 USD.

Now lets talk technicalities. In principle, if you are in the Frontera of Mexico for less than 72 hours then you do not need a visa. Practically, its a darn good idea to have one if you are bouncing back and forth. This is because, eventually, something will happen that will require interaction with someone official. Not necessarily a bad thing but SOMETHING. At that time it is beneficial to have permission to be in the country, thats what the FMT visa does for you.
