FM3 in San Luis Potosi

Can't Post |
hello. I am wondering if anyone has experience in getting a FM3 in San Luis Potosi?? My questions are, where exactly is the consulate, and what exactly is required for this? I know that every consulate is different in the required materials. Thank you so much for your help! Kristina DeNucci

Alas, there is no Mexican Consulate in all of San Luis Potosi. (Consulates are located only outside of the country which they represent.)

You will need to go to the INAMI (Instituto Nacional de Migracion) having jurisdiction over your place of residence in Mexican Republic.

At INAMI's website, http://www.inami.gob.mx is a drop-down menu listed the offices in the Republic. (This part of the site is temporarily down, so keep on trying.) If the site's not back up in a day or so, look up the address and phone in the phone book.

Visit them to determine exactly what this office requires, and make a list of their requirements. Generally, for an FM-3 visitante rentista, you'll need:

1. Valid passport.
2. The photos in the required sizes and quantities, front and profile, convict-style, with hairline and ears revealed, no jewelry or glasses.
3. Proof of monthly income. Generally the past three months' bank statements (the real ones, not something downloaded from the Internet).
4. The SCHP-5 forms, available at the local stationer's. Usually there's one within a block or two of the INAMI office.
5. Comprabante de domicilio. (Proof of residence, preferably a CFE or water bill, because those are issued by governmental entities.)
6. Letter of solicitude, in Spanish.
7. Some offices will fill out the form which contains identifying information, such as the shape of your mustache, parents' names, and foreign languages spoken, on the spot at the office, and others will give you the form to complete and bring in with your application.

Bring the originals and two photocopies of all documents.

Hello! Thanks Jennifer for your reply, very helpful! Now, I have another few questions. First, what exactly would I be, a inmigrante o no inmigrante? I think I would be a rentista inmigrante (just want to travel and be here for a year, no work, no business). Now another thing, as for showing my income, I am working here, but its a hassle to get my work involved (they are in Torreon and I am in MAtehuala), and it would be so much easier for me jsut to go to SLP to get the visa. SO, when I show my proof of income (my bancomer statements) will they question this income....question if I am workign or not? I dont want to get into any trouble! Thanks!

Ay, this is headache time. The FM-3 visitante rentista is a no-inmigrante status, which is what would be appropriate for someone with income from abroad who contemplates living here for a year. But now you've added working in Mexico into the equation, which muddles things.

Unless you are a Mexican national (in which case you wouldn't be asking this question), you must have permission to work from INAMI. Without that permission, you are working illegally. If you'll read the links on this forum, you'll find a lot of information describing the process to obtain a work permit, an RFC and a CURP. A public forum certainly isn't the place to discuss the finer points of breaking the law.

INAMI certainly has the right to ask where the income came from. Sometimes they ask, sometimes they don't. Sometimes that information is entered in your file, sometimes it's not.
