I would be careful about going down to Servicios Migratorios and saying you are going to be gone for 11 months. I don't know for sure, but there might be some time limit or a technical detail on being away from Mexico during this process. Maybe some one else has the answer, but maybe letting it go and saying you forgot but were living here all the time and paying a late penalty might be the way. Where you live, aren't there some Coyotes that could file the paper work for you for a fee in your absence? In the third or fourth year, it does get easier as I remember, but as in everything in Mexico: things change. Also if, like your user name, you have something to do with the Middle East, then forget what I just said about letting it expire. You should renew on time in that case. One day I was over at Servicios Migratorios mouthing off about how in the US anyone they could Cattle Prod off a Railroad Car could get Citizenship in 5 Years. The Democrats want the votes and the Republicans want the cheap labor. I have been already coming here for seven years. When am I going to get some rights? They all laughed. When can I run for Governor? But one guy said I was really lucky that I wasn't Arabic or Asian. "Why", I said taking the bait. It wasn't racism. They said that if they gave one guy a visa, he would bring his whole extended family. You're safer, your family won't even visit you. They were right about that.
