FM3 & bank statements

It is my understanding that to qualify for an FM3 you must present documentation that your income meets the required amount, and that the proof is almost always bank statements for the preceding 3 months showing deposits that meet the requirement.

My question is this: If you don't have the "deposits" but you have bank statements with more than the needed balance to satisfy a year or more of the required income, would that work?

Maybe. But you can have the required deposits by withdrawing money and redepositing it each month for the three months before you plan to apply.

I met the requirement by presenting the annual Social Security statement of the year's payment amount.

Why don't you ask your area consulate what they will accept. Then, please, report back to us what they tell you.

Yes, you are correct. You must EITHER have monthly "income" or deposits, or a bank account with an total amount equal to at least 12 times the minimum monthly requirements for the total number of dependants in your family living here with you here in Mexico.

This year I took my Lloyds statement, after having put my significant other on the account, and took the statement of what I had in the bank and we were approved with no problems. The lawyer we used told us we would have no problem and would not need the past three months deposits.

Best advice again seems to make sure you know what your particular consulate requires. We just got our FM-3 in Kansas City in March. The consulate there will not accept bank statements. We were required to present proof from the agency (Social Security, pension agency, etc.) of our income. Best wishes!

It is MUCH easier to get your fm3 here in Mexico that it is from a foreign country. It's also much more expensive from abroad. Best bet is to wait till your here in Mexico and decide exactly where you want to live ant then persure fm3 process here.
Good luck.

I’ve always recommended, that for those who qualify under the particular requirements of the Mexican Consulate having jurisdiction over their residence in the Old Country, applying for the FM-3 before entering Mexico. It’s always struck me as easier, and just one more task completed before the move.

Some Mexican Consulates impose an age restriction, require more than a single personal visit, and mandate a higher income threshold. For those who do not meet those terms and conditions, or for whom a personal visit to the Consulate is difficult, obviously that recommendation does not maintain.

But I’m intrigued by your assertion that the FM-3 is “much more expensive” when applied for abroad. And I think that many others would likewise be interested in knowing how much more it costs….and why.

I have read that the income requirements can be cut in half if you own property in Mexico. What do you know? Thanks, Laura

The income requirements may be reduced by up to 50% for those who own the house in which they reside within the Mexican Republic.

Jennifer. at least one consulate requires a translated ctf. from your local law people saying you are not a criminal. Also some require other papers with apostille certification. This kind of things can cost money.
Down here most people have never heard of a "apostille.
