FM-2 and need to nationalize vehicle

It was my understanding that you had to nationalize your vehicle when you went to the FM-2. Now, I've heard that you can keep it for five years, or something like that, especially if it is a truck.

Anyone know the current rules on that?

I think it is when you reach the Inmigrado status that your NOB plated vehicle has to go.

Correct. At the end of five years with an FM2 one has the option of electing Inmigrado status at which time the foreign plates must go away.

The privilege of temporarily importing a foreign-plated vehicle continues for the duration of the FM-2. After four renewals of the FM-2, the FM-2 holder has six months in which to apply for inmigrado status. Once inmigrado status has been granted, the privilege of temporarily importing the foreign-plated vehicle comes to an end.

There is no requirement that the vehicle be nationalized. The only requirement is that, if it isn't nationalized, that it be removed from the country.

Whether the vehicle is a truck or a Mercedes Benz is immaterial.

Muchas Gracias, Rolly and Jennifer.
That takes a load off my truck, so to speak.
