Expiring FM-3

This fall we will have to go over the whole procedure again from scratch rather than simply renewing. The conventional wisdom is to obtain an original FM-3 through a consulate in the US rather than at the local immigration office. Is this still the best way to go having been in the country five years already? We have misplaced the apostilles and would like to avoid getting new ones if possible. Finally, and I have never seen this question posted here before, since we are getting brand-spanking new FM-3s, do we qualify for another menaje de casa? Sounds too good to be true but I thought I would ask anyway. TIA

If you already are in Mexico, then the easiest course of action would be to apply for your new FM-3 at the INAMI office serving your place of residence. My advice about getting the FM-3 from the Consulate applies only to those who haven't yet moved to Mexico.

Ask your local INAMI office what their requirements are for the new FM-3, and whether they'll accept your old apostilled documents, copies of which would be in your file at the INAMI office.
