Expired FMT

Can't Post |
Let's say, hypothetically, that in a white-light moment you suddenly realize that your 180-day FMT (tourist visa) was granted exactly 181 days ago. What are your options? I hear that to avoid a fine the best bet is to take a bus across the border and re-enter on a new visa. Would I be correct in assuming that one can't apply for an FM3 while in Mexico on an expired FMT? Would it be advisable to visit an immigration office to seek advice, or would they be obligated to levy the fine?

Once you've used up the full 180 days on your FMT, it's time for you to exit the country with all due haste. Upon your re-entry, you may obtain another FMT.

You are in the country illegally, and under those terms, INAMI is not obligated to grant you an FM-3. The FMT can't be renewed, nor extended, beyond that 180-day term. Whether your local INAMI office will levy a fine upon your visit to the office largely will depend upon their level of mercy. They may grant you a very short extention to get out of Dodge, or they may levy a fine.
