Expired FM2 from 2012... Family class.

Hello guys,

New in the forum. I was wondering if you can help me with this situation. Ok, so my wife is a Canadian citizen and we are both currently living in Mexico city. We got married here in Mexico city on January 2012. We got the FM2 clase familiar back in May 2012. Now it's september 2013 and that FM2 it's expired, it expired may 2013.

We are currently making preparations to go live in Canada. Now, I've read that there's a fine involved if the FM2 is expired. Also I've read that that immigration rules changed and that there's no FM2 anymore.

Does anybody know what's gonna happen at the airport when we leave IF we don't renew the FM2?

Thanks a lot!

If you choose to just go the airport, be prepared for a delay - arrive early and bring extra cash. They can charge you penalties ranging from nothing, to $400 or so pesos, up to $50 pesos per day. A 4 month late penalty (120 days) could ring in at $6000 pesos, but that would be unusual based on past reports. (Hope you get a merciful INM agent, and be prepared to grovel, sincerely beg, whine, and plead.) Foreigners who have faced this in the past, commonly report $2,000 or so pesos in fines for seriously expired FM2's/FM3's.

You are correct that FM2's have not been issued since Nov. 7, 2012. You would normally renew your prior FM2/Inmigrante as a Residente Temporal. After you have resolved things, could you come back and give us a shout about how it worked out?
Happy Trails,
steve
