Dawg´s Dog Tale

OK, so you are thinking Dawg has reached a new low with a frigging "my dog" story but do not be missled. This story is only tangentially about dogs but dogs play a central role in the yarn.

When Dawg was a young man in the 1960s he lived for about a year in Paris and Paris was, in those days, famous or, actually, infamous, for the amount of dog crap on the sidewalks which one was constantly stepping in and there was no reason to become exercised about this because the French loved their dogs and gave not a hoot what you thought of this inconvenience but really this story is not about Paris but about Mexico where Dawg maintains residences in the Chiapas Highlands and at the urban zone of Lake Chapala in the municipality known as Chapala and that is also beside the point but Dawg has, over time, discovered the following:

In Paris, the city and its residents take great pride in the smooth and well-maintained sidewalks one finds all over that beautiful municipality while in both Chapala and San Cristóbal de Las Casas hick towns the sidewalks are treacherous and dangerous and often filled with random potholes and unsafe crags and crannies and Dawg has discovered over the years that the sidewalks in the latter communities are actually superior to those dependably smooth and safe Paris sidewalks and, now don´t get ahead of me here, here is how the Mexican communities I now call home excel over Paris in sidewalkdom :

In Paris, because the sidewalks are so dependably smooth and without unanticipated dangerous uneven construction and untended potholes and because one is always looking up at stuff like fine architecture in Paris, one is far more likely to step directly upon a pile of dogsh*t there than here in Chiapas or Chapala where one is constantly staring at the sidewalk in order to prevent an unseemingly falling upon one´s ass and an indirect benefit of this unusual attention to pedestrain walkways is that one spots piles of dog excrement ahead of encountering same with one´s feet far more often in Chapala and San Cristóbal than in Paris and, as a consequence, one rarely steps in said disgusting leavings and so you see, my friends, there is something positive to be said about anything and anyway this is where we are so let´s make the best of it.

The creative logic employed in your tale reminds me of a wise saying that "an obvious hazard is safer than a booby trap" or in this case...a poopy trap.

The "Fallen Women" of our Mexican towns know well to keep their eyes downcast.

Another "up" side to this is that it is reliably reported that cobblestones contribute to good balance. The constant shifting of weight is a laudable form of exercise...........which I, for one COULD LIVE WITHOUT! So there.

Thanks for the chuckle.

A fun response, Gringal. When we lose the capacity to laugh at ourselves, we are lost.

I believe one might say that’s making “Lemonade”.
