Día de muertos where you are

Here in Chiapa de Corzo the festivities begin today the 31st. We are having our first annual "Festival de Magia y Tradiciones". It starts tonight in the Parque Central with a fashion show of traditional clothing and then supposedly all the lights in the park will be turned out and local legends will be acted out by kids and teens from the community. Sounds like a lot of fun and looks to be really organized. All the shops that sell artesania are participating and have managed to get the support of the mayor and the city, so that is great.

Tomorrow the "almitas" leave and the "almas grandes" arrive. So we all go to the cemetary. Every year the theater department of one of the state universities, UNICACH, puts on an incredible posada. The person in charge is a puppeteer and does a scary, funny, thrilling show. Very interactive, my kids got really scared first and then laughed, last year.

I love this time of year, the weather is changing, lots of wind, cooler, and the festivities are just starting.

What do you guys do where you are?

Do they really call it a posada? Even allowing for regional differences in terminology, that would be a huge stretch. The posadas are traditionally parties held on the nine consecutive nights before Christmas, starting on December 16th.

I would really like to know if that's the term used by the UNICACH!

Yes, that is what they really call it. I tried to scan a copy of the cartel, but couldn´t. Posadas are also what we call the parties at Christmas. I´ll try again with the cartel later.
