Criminal Background Checks

Can't Post |
Hi, I've read a lot about the requirements to obtain a working visa in Mexico, I've seen many lists of all the required documents that are needed to process the vsa application once you have a job offer, the only document which appears on some lists but not others is a criminal background check. I was wondering if anyone knew from experience whether a criminal background check is usually a necessary document for obtaining a work visa in Mexico. If it is, I was wondering as a Canadian if I need a RCMP check of if I can just get a check from the local police. Thanks in advance.

Here in the state of Guanajuato, no one I know who has a working visa has ever needed to provide a police check. Can't speak for elsewhere.

If you apply for an FM3 outside Mexico, some consulates require a background check; some don't. If you apply in Mexico, the background check is not required.

I had 3 different work visas for Mexico (FM3's) and don't recall ever having to produce the police record letter (of course my memory isn't what it was...). I have had to do this for work visas for other countries and it was usually just a form letter from the local police with jurisdiction over the place where you show your most recent place of residency.

just my experience,

My experience in working on making a corporation is that they run and Interpol check from your passport.

I am in the process of getting my FM3 from the Mexican Consulate in Seattle. One of their requirements ia a "letter of good conduct from the Washington State Patrol." Here in Washington you can get a record of criminal history through the computer (for a fee). Then you fax it to the Capitol in Olympia, WA and they notarize it and mail it back.
