Credentials for Teaching English

I have a BA in psychology and a Doctorate in Jurisprudence and am interested in teaching English in Mexico. I am having a difficult time finding out what additionally schooling I need in order to find a good job teaching English in Mexico. If you could point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.

That depends entirely upon the school. There are some schools, universities even, hiring folks with barely a high school diploma, and there are some which require at least a master's in bilingual education. Some will accept a Juris Doctorate as proof that the applicant has at least some familiarity with the English language, and there are some who seem to embrace the notion that a BA in elementary education is somehow a superior degree. And there are plenty in between.

You should be able to get a teaching job at any university without any further credentials. Some universities restrict advanced classes to teachers with an MA in teaching English, but these are rare. Also, all the top universities are now requiring students to take at least some of their major courses in English. I am a (retired)lawyer and I was offered a class teaching law at U. Iberoamericana--but at about 15 bucks an hour (and I had to develop the course materials myself--unpaid), I decided to stick to teaching English. I am currently teaching English to the professors who have to teach their classes in English. I enjoy the work, but the money will only buy an occasional lunch.

If you speak Spanish, you don't have to limit yourself to teaching English. I have a friend who teaches literature and does quite well.
