Clothes, Hair, Makeup and Style: How to Pass for a Gringo

Can't Post |
Let's take the flipside of Georgia's thread. Let's say you are Mexican, and you want to pass as a gringo. What must you do to alter your appearance, style and carriage?

Very simple: strap on a "fanny pack"!

Start this way:

Besides China's Fannypack.....a necessity....

- Get haircut in Unisex style; the less, the better. Dye it blond (optional). Grey okay.

- Wear a starched, ironed sleeveless blouse in a pastel color, preferably with Peter Pan collar

- With this, wear khaki knee shorts. Be sure the knees show

- For shoes, the Minnie Mouse white sport shoes, with white socks, pulled up.

- For a hat, the cotton smashed style will do. White or khaki.

- If wearing a watch, be sure it's a big one.

- Moves: walk with purpose, bent slightly forward. NO hip action !!

That oughta' do 'er. (lol)

Maybe that's because the smilers haven't heard that will get some unwanted attention.

I learned that lesson during my first summer in Mexico back in 1966! Don't look anyone (especially men) in the eye or smile aimlessly at the world - I developed what I called my horse-blinder look as I wandered around Mexico City, a very innocent twenty-year old Spanish major Pennsylvania.

Now I think I know why I am never mistaken for a Gringa tourist!

I had my wife ask me "How come Mexican men always look so well groomed while you, even when you dress up to go out, are always such a mess?"

I wonder if my husband can now pass as a gringo. He went to the store the other day, here in the US, he had on his sweat pants and cowboy boots. Another time he went with shorts and cowboy boots. Needless to say, my 18 year old daughter did not want to be seen with him.

Sorry to say but unless he has a very loud laughter and speaks loud enough for the whole neighborhood to hear him, he just does not qualify!

What the hell does that mean richmx2? Is that some sort of racist putdown of people you refer gratuitously to as "gringos"? Please explain yourself.

Racist generalizations lead to pograms. Knock it off.

Only if the original post ("How to Pass for a Gringo") is also meant to incite a pogram.

And, Bob (er... "hounddog")... as an exemplar of the way gringos carry a grudge might I suggest your ridiculous attempts at provoking arguments?
