My cholesterol readings are great but HDL very low. Does IMSS test for HDL or just a cholesterol reading. Also. do they test prostate if are 58 year's old?....thanks, Brian

When I got IMSS several years ago, they tested nothing. They went by the questionaire I filled out. Don't remember if those questions were on the questionaire.

The first year you are a member, virtually everything except accidental injuries are excluded. After the first year you will have coverage "sin restricciones medicas." You will be asked at sign up if you are ill or under treatment for anything. If you say no, they look no further. Forget the prostate--my Mexican doctor friends say Mexican men won't even permit a digital exam. If need care for the first year--you have to go to a private doctor, which you may decide is the best bet forever, even though IMSS coverage is a good backup since at age 58 I think it costs about 1600 pesos for a year.

They are not doing any kind of medical exam now. However the prudent thing to do, if you ever want to get IMSS, is to apply now and get the 2 year "existing conditions exclusion" over with
