CURP card

Can't Post | Private Reply
A friend here in Jalisco went to renew her driver's license and was told she needed a CURP card. Same story when she tried to buy a new cell phone(!) and again when trying to open an Intercam account.
Can anyone explain what this card is, exactly, and how one obtains one?
Thanks in advance.....

The CURP number (card) is the Mexican equivalent of a Social Security number. It's slowly being required for more and more official documents. Official documents are the only ones I've ever seen that wanted your CURP (so far).

You can get the CURP at most city halls (palacio municipal) and for sure you can get it at any Hacienda (tax) office. It is free and it takes only one day after your application. I don't remember exactly what documents (copies) I needed to get mine, but for sure you will need your FM3 and probably your passport.

When I opened an account with Banamex, they arranged a CURP for me without even telling me. I didn't know I had one until I saw it on some bank paperwork.

Camille, we got ours in Valle de Banderas. We had to bring in our FM3s (or was it passports, I think it was FM3). It took about 10 minutes.
You can go to the Registro Civil in any BadeBa town and get one.
When are we going to go get your "old lady" card? We could combine the 2 things in one trip.

Ha! Sue, somebody sneaked in while I was asleep, I guess, and planted a horrible old lady in my mirror! She's damn clever, that one, she mimics my every move..... SHE'S the one who needs the card, not ME! and when I come back from Texas with a birth certificate mid-November, I will happily accept your kind offer of a guided trip into OOA.... Official Old Age.
I noticed last year on a trip to the San Miguel Disneyland, that there are "tercera edad" parking spaces at larger stores. Now that's one idea I like! Taking a handicapped space is unthinkable AND illegal, but I notice they are under-utilised here and wouldn't it be nice to have a couple of geezer spaces?
There may a couple of other teenagers with crone doppelgangers hanging out in THEIR mirrors too, so maybe we could all go in my hog truck and take you to lunch?
Thanks so much for your offer of help, young lady!
