thank you for all your wonderful ideas.

after endless hours of calling around to churches and organizations that are connected to any happenings in Zacatecas MX I finally was given the chance to speak directly to a large audience of Mexicans from all parts of Mexico.

This wonderful group of people went home and after a couple of phone calls to their loved ones back home Alfonso Martinez was located and given the number to my home.

We received his collect call on the 13th! What a valentines day gift!:) I am now looking into ways bring him home to the USA on a Fiancé visa using a hardship waiver because of our daughters condition.
I have spoken to a couple of the professors at my university and they said they would get in touch with me with the names of lawyers that might help us Pro Bono. All the immigration lawyers i looked up on the internet were going to charge $5,000 and up.

For anyone who might find themselves in this situation in the future (we hope not ) please tell them that the best way to go about looking for someone is by talking with other Mexicans that have loved ones in Mexico.
But I must tell them that contacting people at random at there homes is not the way to do it. I received a message from a TomG that addressed this very issue and he was very correct. His message is posted in my original request for help under "my 2yr old and I..." I got nowhere calling around so I went to the local high school and talked to some of the teachers that taught the Spanish classes in hopes that one of them could help me translate a letter that I could put in the local paper. my thoughts were that this would be the best way to get my story told and to the most people. It was a long shot but proved worth it.

I received a phone call from a professor that taught ESL at the community college in twin falls Idaho. He said that he reads the paper in his class as an exercise for his students and when he read my listing he thought about his students. He invited me to attend one of his classes and said I could speak to his students and he would help translate if needed. there were about 25 people who were from all parts of Mexico and when I was introduced by the professor they ALL made me feel more than welcome. they were told about my attendance and were able to preview the article in the paper prior to my arrival so it was not very long into my story before I saw a couple hands raised by people egger to help.

To make a long story short, there were a few phone calls to Mexico that evening and in two days Alfonso had been located. I was only off by one digit in the phone number that I had for his family’s residence, the number was 011-52-492-xxx-xxxx. A student was able to get the correct number from the grocery store in alfonsos home town in "villa hidalgo" He even made the call to alfonsos family explaining that i was looking for him and asked that they give him my phone number.

thank you for all your help and go bless everyone of you for your kindness. I hope that my story will help someone else who is in search of loved ones in Mexico...

with all our hearts,
sara,kyla,koben

God bless you and your family. You earned everything good that may come to you for having a good heart filled with love and hope. Don't hesitate to help others with the knowledge you gained from your ordeal.

Meanwhile you can get pre-paid phone cards (tarjetas de telefono) from little stores or businesses that Mexicans frequent - your new contacts the ESL class will direct you. With these cards you can call Mexico at cheaper rates. There are many brands of cards and you new contacts should lead you to the best deals - like 25 minutes for $2, or 60 minutes for $5, etc.

The are also many internet cafes in Mexico, even in small towns. They costs about 70 cents an hour. You can send messages back and forth if you husband know how to use one and gets a free hotmail or yahoo address.

You and your family are doing more for Mexican-American relations than a whole room full of politicians do in a year. You can be rightfully proud.

I am so happy for you and your family. Alfonso is very lucky to have such a wife. I hope your experience will guide you to help many others in similar circumstances. I also hope that you get motivated to learn spanish and allow your children to become bilingual.
