Good move in my opinion. The drive from Manzanillo is not as scenic as you might think---miles of the same winding roads, much of it through wooded or jungly areas. Two lanes for the majority of the distance. The plusses are that you're following the coastline and there are a number of small unspoiled seaside villages to visit, pristine beaches in many areas, and good country people to visit. And the bus ride from Manzanillo to Guad is not really as harrowing as the one from PV to Guad. Look at David Ramsey's website about his book on the area at www.costalegre.com. Good pictures and descriptions of the villages and beaches of the Costalegre between Manzanillo and PV. In Manzanillo there'a a good car rental agency by the tire shop close to the Soriana store. Or at the airport. For a nice day trip drive up to Melaque and Barra de Navidad, then an extra 15 miles or so to La Manzanilla. 45 minutes to an hour from Manzanillo through some nice farm and ranch country to some small fishing villages. Basically an easier trip but with most of the type of scenery you'll find on up toward PV. Enjoy. Shameless self-promotion: http://www.headformexico.com
