We are slowly beginning our transition to residency in Mexico - Mazatlan in particular. We are interested in setting up a bank account which earns interest and which ties into the Mexican banking system (like Banamex). We've heard rumors the Lloyds has a Los Angeles branch. We are aware that our personal accounts up here can be accessed with our ATM cards, but are curious as to whether there is an advantage to setting up a separate account. Also, it would allow us to isolate money in a "Mexico only" account. Any thoughts?

I have been very satisfied with my California Commerce Bank/Banamex accounts. Easy to assess money from either bank and to transfer funds from CCB to Banamex by internet, phone or checks. Both banks pay interest and have no service charges. My SS and IRA funds are direct deposited in CCB and I transfer to Banamex as required and when the exchange rates go up.

Our experience with California Commerce Bank has been excellent. Funds are transferred to our Banamex account while we are speaking on a Mexican or US toll/free telephone line with the always pleasant CCB representative. We use LLoyd when we receive a check in dollars at our home here in Mexico don't mind waiting the 30/60 days it takes for clearance and release of the funds.
: We are slowly beginning our transition to residency in Mexico - Mazatlan in particular. Thank you all very much for the great advise! I called Calif. Comm. Bank today for further information. The first question I was asked was how old I am. When I replied that I'm 52, I was told that I'm just too young to use their service. Apparently the minimum age for a "Norte" account is 55. Imagine being carded by a bank - whoduthunkit? But thanks anyway! Cheers!
