Which crossing to use from San Antonio?

Destination is San Miguel de Allende. Pharr/Reynosa has been recommended. I understand there's a new bridge close to Laredo, and Eagle Pass/Piedras Niegras is possible also. The first two have toll roads while the Piedras Niegras crossing would entail driving thru Monclova to Saltillo and then down. Do you think the new bridge would be easier then Nuevo Laredo? Gracias.

Colombia Bridge

The Colombia bridge just west of Laredo is the newest, most modern and most trouble free border crossing I know of. Everything is done in one building and the facilities are good. The only problem is that they (the Mexican side) are only open during daylight hours.....0900 till 1900 ?? At 0900 we cleared the place with car permit in about 20 minutes.

Hi Mike,

I just moved to SMA - feel free to send me a private message if you want any more info. I did everything I was told not to do. I crossed at Laredo, Bridge 1, and drove straight thru Nuevo Laredo onward. There was no wait and I had no problem with the crossing at all. What I did do, on advice from the manager at the Red Roof Inn where I was staying, was cross over the night before and got my car papers all in order. The next morning I just drove over the bridge!

One warning about the drive, if you are coming soon, was that I encountered terrible fog, the worst I have ever seen. It made for slow driving. If you end up deciding to stop halfway I would recommend the Las Palmas Inn in Matehuala.

Again, I was told to use Columbia and I think coming from where you are it makes sense. I ended up in Laredo for the night before and just decided to go direct. I have heard great things about Columbia. There is an article posted here on mexconnect (not sure where but I am sure you could search it) by Uncle Donnie that describes the Columbia crossing in great detail!

Cuidate,
