Veteran Health Care---One more time

Can't Post |
Hi Folks,

After the "confusion" over my answers to Mr. Rodriquez's earlier inquiry the editors of the subscription online magazine carrying my complete article about the FMP contacted me and offered to open the subscription site so that you can all read the entire piece.

Go to http://www.mexico-insights.com which will bring up the home page of the magazine. In the upper right hand column, in the User ID blank just type in jun04. In the Password blank type in mole.

Once the magazine opens just scroll down and read the article on Free Medical Care in Mexico for U.S. Disabled Veterans. There is a great deal of info not mentioned in any of the previous posts on this forum, as well as a few photos, including a favorite of mine taken by our very own David McL.

On a personal note: I had my latest CT Scan read two days ago and the tumor in my chest that was as big as a catchers mitt when I took my last treatment in Texas in Dec. is now GONE! A bit of scarring showed up, but nothing more serious.

I attribute the good news to several things but I feel as though this wouldn't have happened if I'd not had access to medical care in Mexico through the FMP.

One correction in the article: In the paragraph beginning "According to the information on" a web address is missing from the magazine copy. We were requested to proof but we've been in Guadalajara for the past two days wrapping up medical matters and just missed the opportunity. The website referred to is http://www.myhealthevet.va.gov/MHV.portal.

Once I'm able to contact the editors, Judy King and Chris Potters, we'll take care of that minor glitch. Thanks to both of them for allowing me to offer access to this article, and thanks for the nice layout they provided.

Their gracious sharing should benefit anyone interested in this program.

Shameless self-promotion:

Donnie, as I'm not a vet, I usually don't read the posts about Veteran health care, but I'm sure glad I read yours today to find the good news about your health. I'm very happy for you and Teresa. Hope to see you at the next get-together next week at Tom's. Linda Samuels

While it is true that FMP only applies to disabilities previously recognized by the VA, nevertheless, the program is very helpful and avoids making trips to the border, which is a two day drive for me.

I have a 20 % disability for hearing. I have used the system for several
years. As an example: When I needed new hearing aids I went to an audiologist who examined me. gave me a written copy of the results of the exam and the costs. These were forwarded to the VA and a short time later I received a check for almost $1800 to pay for the aids.

I have had my spare aids checked and serviced and I buy batteries. I just submit the bill and receive a check back. For all servicess below $300 no prior approval is necessary.
