The Institute has been organized in cooperation with the Mexican Law Committee of the Section of International Law and Practice of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of New Mexico, the Asociación Nacional de Abogados de Empresa (ANADE) and the University of New Mexico School of Law. The purposes are to promote research on legal problems common to the United States and Mexico, to study the administration of justice in both countries, and to provide a regular forum for attorneys, judges, and legal scholars to meet and share opinions with their counterparts from the other country. Forms for application for membership in the Institute and for registration for the Conference are on the last page of this brochure. REGISTRATION FEE The Registration Fee for U.S. registrants at the conference is $600 if received by September 1, 2004. For full-time professors and government officials, the fee is $400. On or after September 1, the fees are $650 and $450 respectively. The fee for Mexican participants is $400 (U.S.) until September 1, and $450 (U.S.) after that date. The fee includes a reception on Thursday evening, dinner on Friday evening, luncheons on Friday and Saturday, and coffee and soft drinks during the days. The Friday evening banquet will be at the La Fonda Hotel - Santa Fe. The Registration Fee includes a Membership Fee of $50 which will be retained if registration is canceled. Payment may be made by VISA or MasterCard. The card number may be submitted by phone, FAX or the Registration Form. HOTEL The conference will be held at the La Fonda Hotel, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Rooms have been reserved until August 27 at the special price of $159 single or double. After August 27, the hotel will provide rooms at the same price if they are available. La Fonda does not require a deposit, though a credit card is required to guarantee a room at the time a reservation is made. Persons attending must make their own hotel reservations. Reservations can be made by on-line at: www.lafondasantafe.com/ group_email.html SANTA FE FIESTA & ZOZOBRA The Santa Fe Fiesta & Zozobra will be held Thursday, September 9th-Sunday, September 12th, 2004. Fiestas de Santa Fe is one of the oldest continually celebrated civic festivals in North America. The Fiesta lasts a full weekend and includes parades through town, music & dance performances on the Plaza, and the fiery appearance of Zozobra, a fifty-foot tall monster made of recycled newspaper and fireworks, who is burned in an elaborate display of civic pride. For more info go to: www.santafe.org AIR AND SURFACE TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM SANTA FE Most flights arrive at and leave from the Albuquerque International Airport which is serviced by American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Northwest and United Airlines. Great Lakes Airlines in partnership with Frontier, 1-800-432-1359 has direct flights to Santa Fe from Denver. Rental cars should be reserved in advance of arrival. A basic understanding of the Mexican legal system will be assumed. Supplemental materials will be furnished to participants at the Conference. The proceedings will be published in the United States-Mexico Law Journal which will be sent to Members of the Institute. Dress for the meetings is casual. Jackets and neckties are suggested for the Friday evening banquet but ties are not required. CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION CREDIT This conference is being cosponsored by CLE of New Mexico, Inc, and has been approved by the New Mexico MCLE Board for at least 16 General MCLE credits, based on a 50 minute hour.
