A couple of months ago some friends from the US asked me about taking a trip to Copper Canyon. I gave it some thought, considering the violence going on in Chihuahua and having read ‘God's Middle Finger' recently, [ I know, I know, I don't take everything I read in the book as absolute!] The train trip from Los Mochis to the rim of the canyon is guarded by the Federales and I told them I thought it safe. It is now a week until they take the trip and I am having some doubt. Has anyone accurate information on that journey? Facts I might be able to confirm? I took the trip a couple of years ago. Has anyone been on this journey recently? Would you send your friends to Copper Canyon next week? I should add that the same friends have rented a truck and intend to drive down into the canyons and bike around. I didn't think that very safe either! I live in Mazatlan and we have had more than our share of violence in the last month, though none directed at extranjeros. I have lived all over the world including some very violent countries and don't scare easily, but would appreciate some thoughtful input from others who have traveled recently in the areas I mentioned. Thanks for any help
