The Hacienda

I do not know a lot of Mexican families, but where the children have left home for the USA or employment elsewhere, the extended family of sisters and brothers appears to restructure itself in one place, one large hacienda The Mexican families referred to above must be truly unique, because the hacienda system no longer exists in Mexico. The hacienda was a social and economic institution for productive agricultural activity as the expense of certain freedoms of those under its control. "Hacienda" is a term which is grossly misused. Every large house in Mexico is NOT a hacienda. Hacienda architecture varies greatly. The closest analogy which can be made would be the plantation system which was in place in the American South before the War of Northern Aggression.
