If you don't apply for the FM3 you will have to leave Mexico and re-enter every 6 months/180 days. <p>As far as I know this is no longer possible. The border is now computerized and you can not just go back out and then come back in.<p>In any case the cost of going to the border and doing this would be about the same as getting an FM3. Yearly renewals are only $90-$100.
