Techos de México...accomodation program

I just came across an interesting program to assist small local economies in Mexico.

One of our sons worked for Habitat for Humanity so I am a little familiar with its international building programs.

While Habitat builds houses for low-income families, the houses can only be used as homes for the families. In Techos de Mexico (Mexican Roofs) the concept is different.

The family lives on the first floor and earns income from a tourist room and patio on the second floor. Fifty percent of the income earned goes to the building fund and fifty percent goes to the family until the fund is paid off. Once their loan is paid in full, one hundred per cent of the money goes to the family. Techos de Mexico creates both a business opportunity aside from standard fishing income and provides low impact tourist accommodations in keeping with the rural atmosphere of certain small villages.

One place is have six of these 'Technos' available for rent is the beach town of Chacala, Nayarit. Check out the details at:

If you try it out, please post back to the board about your experience. Wendy
