Send packages from NOB

I know I've seen this discussed on the Forum, but can't for the life of me find the answer.

I have asked a friend in New Mexico to send a package to me in Cuyutlan. He is having difficulty finding out what service to use and has issues about what may not be sent. Included in the package would be prescription medications (routine non-narcotic), camera accessories, and mail that we wish forwarded to us.

That's it. Can someone give us a simple rundown on how to do this with UPS, FedEx, or possibly USPS?

USPS Priority Mail usually arrives without being inspected by customs.

All three go through the same Aduana office in Guadalajara now, but Rolly is right. The USPS International Priority Mail (both boxes and the envelopes) are opened much less often than the other two. Maybe Aduana trusts those little Customs Declaration stickers that the USPS insists on putting on the outside of the package. The only thing I would worry about are the prescription medicines, as Aduana's first approach to anything medical is "¡NO!".

I send by UPS quite often, also quite expensive...I see UPS and FedEx running all over down here.

I have been ordered natural supplements from a company NOB and at first had no problems receiving them within 1-1.5 wks. The last time, I received a CALL from the aduana in GDL, telling me they were not going to ship my package on to Comala because there was a prescription item in the group of stuff. I explained that it was not a prescription item, just a product containing no corn products due to my dog's allergies to corn. He still said no go & they would send it back the next day and that this sort of thing could not come into the country via DHL...only surface mail. When I contacted the company, they said that is how they ship all orders....via DHL to the Mexican postal service.....from there it is supposed to go through aduana and then on to the recipient.....it has been 3 weeks now and still nothing. Keep your fingers crossed!!!

In my experience, mailing medicine from anywhere to Mexico is always an Aduana issue (with any of the carriers). Clothes & electronics also get stopped by Aduana. Again, this is based my experiences over the last 10 years...others may have different experiences (as is common in Mexico).

A possible solution; if there is a Mail Boxes Etc (MBE) store in your area, they offer a mail forwarding service. You buy a PO Box and pay a monthly fee for the forwarding service. They provide an US mailing address (normally in Laredo TX) and then they take care of bringing mail down to your MBE PO Box. It works great for magazine subscriptions, normal mail, e-Bay & Amazon purchases etc etc. Meds may still be an issue, but they will be able to confirm what can be shipped.

As a side note...I buy my Meds locally and have found them to be far less expensive than anything I can buy in US. Also get some stuff not available in US...Flanax for example (more potent version of Aleve).

Going with USPS priority (without Rx) this time around.

Will look into the MailBoxes service and see if that would be worthwhile.
