Road information

Is there a web site to find road conditions in Mexico. In mid January I plan to drive the Devils Backbone between Mazatlan and Durango and would like to know the road conditions.

In addition to the road conditions, you may wish to research the incidents along that highway. Admittedly they have been much the same as other areas but there have been numerous incidents that have tended to occur in groups. From my readings, there are numerous cartel controlled areas along that route and things tend to flare up without schedule.

Maybe you should wait until the new quota road is finished....

The Devil's Backbone is a busy, well maintained highway.
It will be replaced by a four lane toll road in a few years.
But there is no need to wait to enjoy one of the most scenic drives in the country.

I have to agree with Rolly. Besides, there have not been any reports of cartel vs. cartel vs. police activities on that road at all, so I would drive it in a heartbeat without any worries.

Right around New Years, I have (in the past) very occasionally encountered some very, very minor icy spots on that road, but this winter has been pretty dry so far, so it's doubtful that you would even see this during Jan. 2011.

From a thread earlier this year, see the information about this road and its replacement scheduled for completion in 2011-2012 depending on whom you believe.....
