I think you made the right move, David. Spammers like this character have no idea that the flip side of freedom of speech is responsibility and civility. Thanks for keeping order on MexConnect - I know it's a lot of work - The help you have given to others, directly and indirectly, can't be measured. Can't imagine what we "ex-pats" would do without the Rolls-Royce of all Mexico forums...............Dutch

There have been a number of crude, obscene, and personal attack messages posted in the early morning hours. I doubt that many viewers actually saw these nasty grams because they were zapped pretty quickly. They were posted, for the most part, by unregistered trial users. There have been a couple of registered users who have behaved in this same way, and they have also been banned. Be glad you missed these posts; they were not worthwhile contributions.

We should all remember that this is a family site, and that it is used as a resource by many schools.

The week long trial users will still read all the forums, and in fact I think taking this option will serve two purposes. It will weed out the type of person that precipitated this action in the first place, and encourage new membership at the same time. Registered users are in for the long haul, and will continue to contribute, which is why I believe this to be a positive move for the forums....that's my 2 pesos worth.

Believe me, Gary, these postings were outrageous rantings from someone demented. There is no rationale to have to face that kind of language from someone simply because they feel slighted somehow. David was absolutely right.

Although I'm not usually one to post, even though I read the Forum's daily, I have to add my 2 pesos. Twice I have highly praised Mexconnect to friends, only to have it backfire on me. The first was during the "thread block" debacle and the second was during the most recent fiasco. David's post has given me faith again to continue to suggest Mexconnect. Regardless of how someone feels about certain people on this site, to use the language and obvious hatred that was expressed is completely uncalled for and diminishes the desire to continue to use Mexconnect. David's method for handling the situation is most appropriate. Even though I don't personally know the offended parties, I trust that they recognize the stupidity of the people that were posting, and take it for what it's worth. In response to free speech, BS. It is not free speech to slander another person. That's just being childish and mean. Congrats to David for taking the high road and correcting the situation, making Mexconnect a place for the free exchange of ideas and information, not a place to hurt.

Hi Jersey,

I am sorry that you got hit with the nasty stuff that was going on early this morning. You should see (not really!) the nastygrams I got as I was deleting the obscene posts and banning the sick-o who was doing this stuff. It appeared to be the work of one person using 4 different names.

Unfortunately it is slightly difficult to "click on by" one's private mailbox. There is no "sidestepping" the rash of private hate mail that is being dispatched to Mexconnect members and moderators alike and the inappropriateness of the unsolicited (and in many cases not even remotely amusing) content.
