Posting of PMs

The posting of PMs without the express permission of the original writer is not acceptable on MexConnect forums, which is why the thread that started with one has just been deleted.

Thanks for taking care of that, Tony. Though I wasn't part of that discussion, I was wondering about the ethics of posting a PM for all to see.

Then what is the official ruling on unsolicited and especially nasty PMs?

I'm sorry I didn't see it (and delete it) sooner, since that would have saved others from taking time to respond - responses that were inevitably deleted in the process.

I agree in principle, Tony. However, I believe there should be an option for those who are getting nasty messages and don't want more.

I just checked my own settings and as nearly as I can tell, there is no way to selectively block p.m.'s from an individual. Other forums do allow "FOE" lists, and it solves the problem of anyone having to receive repeated offensive personal messages. Maybe the board managers can consider this option.

I know that getting a vitriolic p.m. can really mess up a day, whether it's deserved or not.

This basically gives yupalandia free reign to send his offensive PMs to anyone whom disagrees with any of his essays. And I think it is safe to assume that there have been quite a number of nasty PMs sent to a large number of members on this board.

Well, Bennie, since you don't like the messages you've been receiving from a certain Mexconnect member, you can always ignore or delete them, thus saving yourself a lot of unnecessary aggravation. :-)

Benny, Good question! The answer is you contact me or the webjefe David McLaughlin via PM or email. (Consider me contacted!), Tony

You are correct that the PM system does not allow selective blocking. This is something on our "wish list" for the future, but we're not making any promises about when that might become possible.

That works once you have received the first one but not the first PM from the poster. But the thing is, one poster in particular has a habit of sending these messages to harass not just myself but many other posters on this board.

Private messages, IMO, are private only when both parties agree. While there may be a rule against posting them for public viewing there is nothing that says these messages cannot be shared privately. And that is what I intend to do with any offensive messages I receive and encourage others to also send them along to the mods.

We would ask that you first contact either myself or David McLaughlin by PM or email and briefly explain the nature of the problem. We will then decide how to proceed and will take whatever steps are necessary.
MexConnect's success is due to a combination of great contributors, lively forum discussions that stay within the terms of forum usage, and continuing feedback from all our users. We appreciate all feedback and will continue to do everything possible to maintain MexConnect as the world's leading source for information about Mexico in English.

Having participated in a few forums where the level of discourse degenerated into an eight year olds' food fight, and having left them as a result, I have appreciated the reasonable moderation I've seen on Mexconnect since I joined in 2004. Keep it up, and when things go way over the line, I've noticed you do know when to kick 'em off the bus.

As for Rolly's invaluable help for newcomers, his generosity with his time and knowledge...........all I can say is: Muchas Gracias, from the heart.

I would suggest posting the offending PM on a new thread.

i had reported a vile PM last year. gave the mod (david) my password so they could see the message. the member was immediatly banned. (actually they had been banned 2 previous times, & rejoined. now they are history). the mods here take care of the board.
