Possible to Have 2 USA Plated in Mex at the Same Time?

Can't Post | Private Reply
OK, here’s my question. I have one American plated TV. I have just bought an American plated travel trailer that I wish to get a 10 year permit for. Not a problem.
I also have an enclosed cargo trailer that I would also like to have in Mexico at the same time as the Travel trailer.
I know there is a law only allowing for one American plated vehicle (TV) in Mexico at one time by one driver. I have not found anything yet that says I can only have one American plated trailer in Mexico at the same time.
Does anyone know for fact of such a limitation?
Thanks,
Robt65

It seems like that since your trailer's permission is actually connected to the permit for your car, unless you could pull 2 trailers at once, you couldn't do it. When you cross the border with your car going back to the US, you have to have the trailer too, if you are going to cancel the car's permit.
But there may be something I don't know about special circumstances for travel trailers.

I had this same question four years ago, having a utility trailer already in Mexico, and wanting to bring in an RV trailer, on top of that.

A friend of mine who is acquainted with the jefe of the Aduana in Reynosa, phoned him with the question. The answer was, that it was not possible.

However, I am not convinced that there is not some kind of work around, or that this jefe was wrong, but as a result, I never did attempt to bring in the second trailer. I still want to though, so if any further information is discovered, please post back here, or send me a private message.

Hello Johnv,

I fully intend on trying it. I am going to first bring my 30 foot Travel trailer along with a notarized copy of the land document showing I own the land to put this 10 year permitted trailer on. A few weeks later when I go or my VA Medical appointment in Texas, I will hook up the cargo gtrailer and try to get a 180 day permit for that one. I also believe that it can be done. My Mexican insurance company agent tells me he has written Mexican insurance for two trailers with the same tow vehicle. Time will tell.

Please let the forum know how you make out on importing the second trailer, or send me a private message, as I mentioned earlier.

I would like to add that I have a "friend of a friend" who has imported everything under the sun, including a bulldozer, a motor home, two trailers, a pick up truck, and an SUV. However, this was all done before the recent revamping of the Mexican Aduana, where most all agents were replaced with "honest and educated" ones. I am not sure, but I think some large bribes took place also.
