I was reading El Mundo, 12/28/10, from Madrid, and read an interview with Anabel Hernandez, the author of "Los Señores del Narco", (Lords of Drugs), a best selling book. She has some pretty bold claims in that book, including that ex president Fox took a 20 million peso bribe to let Chapo Guzman escape from prison. She says that Calderon is aligned with the Sinaloa cartel, partly because of deals that were made with Fox. Some of what she says is not surprising, including that many politicians are taking money from the narcos. She also says that the Mexico City Airport is a big center for drug trafficking. According to her, without the help of the politicians, Chapo Guzman and other narco leaders would be nothing more than peasants who never graduated from grade school. Is any of this true? I don't know, but some of it sounds pretty plausible, other claims are kind of fantastic. High level corruption could be part of the reason that the drug war is not going well. Maybe I will try to pick up her book. As far as I know it is only available in Spanish. Richard http://www.fergusonsculpture.com
