Hello all, Over morning coffee I always read the Jerez section of our daily paper Sol de Zacatecas. Usually that news is boring. Politics, worries about money to fund everything from works in progress to lunches for school kids, and other routine matters. But today, Monday the 16th of November, an official Holiday here in Mexico, the news was astounding. In fact it wasn't on the Jerez page but on the front page with a full page headline: --------------------------------------------------------------- Two Men Excuted in Jerez The article went on to say that the bodies of two men were found together face up on Sunday morning (the 15th) on the street connecting our two most important churches here in Jerez: El Santuario de La Virgen de la Soledad (our patron saint) and La Paroquia de San José Obrero (our parochial church). These two churches are only a block apart. Cartridge cases were found about mid block. One man had his hands tied behind his back and received two large caliber shots in his head. The other was blindfolded and received seven 22 caliber shots in his chest and two large caliber shots in his head. Near the two men was a sign reading: "This is what happens to all people making anonymous reports to the authorities. Don't do it." --------------------------------------------------------------- Thank God the typical mayhem with bodies dismembered and heads rolling had not been committed. Neither man has yet been identified. It is estimated that the men were shot about 5:30 in the morning. How that estimate was made is not explained, since the judicial police did not arrive until around 7:00AM with State police and Army units arriving soon after. Perhaps early attendees at the 6:00 AM mass found the bodies. One would think that shots at 5:30 in the morning would bring police running. If not, then perhaps silencers were used. The required autopsies had not yet been reported nor the bodies yet delivered at the newspapers publishing time. En pax requisat. jerezano.
