New to Mexconnect

Well...I have been lurking for awhile now and want to see if anyone could give me some advice. I have gone on one other site which when I ask a question I either get no replies or ridiculous jabber.

My fiance lives in Mexico and I am planning a trip in July to get married. Is there alot to do prior to the marriage? I have looked to see what it is I might need while I am in the states and what he needs to do down there...but I really can't find anything.

We are planning to have a simple civil wedding

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sandra

I recently was married to a mexican national, if you are divorced or widowed you will need an apostille of the divorce papers from the state where you were divorced (secretary of state), if widow you will need apostille of death certificate from the state where your spouse died also from the sec of states office. You will also nee apostille of your birth certificate from state where you were born, it is much cheaper to get these in the united states then to have them sent to mexico, and these papers must be translated into spanish in mexico by a goverment approved agency. You must go to office of Registro Civil in the city in which your future husband lives in, also you must go to immigration office and make out paper work there, the process may take a couple months, but i cannot how long it will actually take as things in mexico usually take longer than one would think, now alot of this varies state to state in mexico but this is the basic information on what you must do, there are fees for all these things.
I hope this helps Pat Moore

I started the same process when I was about to marry my Cristina but we just realized that it would be easier to get married north of the border, get the apostille stamp on the marriage certificate, have it translated and submit it. Fewer steps, less hassle and shorter wait.

Do you think it would be better to go for the K-1 Visa instead of marrying in Mexico? We are just trying to figure out the best way to go. I don't know anyone in my situation to ask.

If you are planning on bringing her north of the border to live I would definitely recommend the fiance visa route. It is a bit of a hassle but after watching several friends try this different routes, it seems to be the best.

I dont know in what city Pat had his experiance... but I was married to a national in Mazatlan... I was not married before so divorce papers were not an issue... Needed my U.S. birth certificate ( did not need to have it translated ) Wife needed her mexican birth certificate... Needed to do papers at immigration for permission to marry a mexican national... That was everything. Completed the entire process and was married in 3 Days.

I am not saying Pat gave you bad info.... It is probally different from one city to another or possibly state to state.

I do know that if you tell them you are divorced it complicates matters a lot... (Might want to simply say NO when they ask you)

We are just trying to figure out what would be the best route to take. He will be moving to the States to live with me. I will be visiting Mexico again in July and we are just trying to decide if we should marry there or wait and try for the fiance Visa. I don't want to "ruin" anything by marrying in Mexico. Urrrg such a hard decision. We want to be together and start our lives as a married couple.
